What you will see

The famous castle of Damouchari is located in the peninsula that exists in the village and separates the two small bays. Little is known for its history as no archeological excavations have ever been made. It was built by Venetian sailors who used the village during their voyages to protect from the frequent pirate raids and also to protect villagers when trading goods.

If you find yourself in the tall hill of Damouchari, you can see the few remainings of the castle. Unfortunately, today only ruins are left as no remarkable preservation efforts were made. It’s a standard Byzantine fortress, built using the opus incertum technique, with uneven irregular stones, carved with skill. Very close to the castle, stand the ruins of an older building, that were the Turkish customs. The remains of these buildings add to the the overall beauty of the scenery and add a special sense of nostalgia to the visitor.

Standing on that hill, you will be amazed by the incredible views towards the Aegean and the village of Damouchari. A great place for relaxation.
