The beach
The exquisite Papa Nero beach is located south of Agios Ioannis and is one the most famous beaches of Pelion, 56km away from Volos. The clean sandy shore with the golden sand and the Aegean waters has given it a blue flag award, while the surrounding greenery of the mountain give the impression of being somewhere exotic.
The beach is organized and has umbrellas, sunbeds, lifeguard and along it some coffee shops and taverns that offer delicious seafood.
This awkward name (In Greek "Papa" is Priest and "Nero" is Water) possibly derives from the homonym fountain located above it at the area of Trypia Petra. There is also another alternative version that says that long time ago, a priest drowned here and so the area got its name.
In Papa Nero and specifically at the borders with Agios Ioannis beach, operates a camping site, with great attendance every year by campers wanting to literally be around nature.
If you are in Papa Nero, you can also visit the nearby beach of Agios Ioannis village, or the charming Damouchari that is close as well. Finally, access to the beach is quite easy by following the road. However be cautious during peak times as access to the beach is restricted to cars and you’ll have to walk your way in order to enjoy your swim in this magical place.
