The beach

The isolated beach of Banikas is located on the east side of Pelion at the foothill below Anilio. An unknown beach that attracts few visitors even during the hot summer days, the reasons are that it is completely unorganized and hard to reach. However, this isolation turns to be its biggest advantage. The landscape is made out of rocks that continue in the sea, while being surrounded also by large imposing rocks with rich foliage.

As mentioned above, Banikas seems to be unaware of civilization as it lacks basic amenities and a lifeguard. The only way to access the beach is by feet through an unmarked path or alternatively through a boat.

Aside for its special characteristics, Banikas is known for historical and mythological matters. In the beach, archeologists discovered the remains of an ancient city. Moreover, in a large cave located there it is said that the mythical centaur Chiron spent his time, giving a mystique atmosphere to this beautiful beach. Finally, in between the beaches of Banikas and Plaka is the chapel of Panagias tis Faneromenis (Virgin Mary), one of the most known attractions of the area, certainly worth visiting.
