About the village

A small and quiet village in the municipality of Mouresi, located only 4km from Tsagarada, drowned in the greenery of its grasslands and gardens.

People gave the name Xorychti from the sound of the blowing winds (Greek: Xourizi”) while others believe that it derives from the name of an old mine that existed in the area.

The main sight is the central church of Koimisis Tis Theotokou (The Assumption of Virgin Mary), built around 1450. It is located in the village’s main square and features a gold carved iconostasis and post Byzantine murals. Every 15th of August, on the celebration of Virgin Mary, a fair is organized with lots of dances, songs and traditional music. The village also has many other chapels such as Agias Varvaras, Agion Panton and Agiou Konstantinou that you will discover during your stay.

Xorychti is ideal for walking and hiking. You can follow the cobbled path (Kalderimi) that connects the village with the neighboring Tsagarada from where you’ll pass from the stone arched bridge Palio Gefiri (Old Bridge) or the path that connects the village with the beach of Limnionas, its port, from there starts the gorge of Koutras or Tsounagka that is considered to be the deepest and most impressive gorge of Pelion.
Limnionas is a secluded beach accessed from the village by a dirt road, an exotic scenery that will impress you with its tranquil waters and sandy beach.

From 2009, Xorychti has its own theater, the Open Theater, with great acoustics, a large stage and many seats, hosting various cultural events every year.
The village retains its beauty every season of the year, however if you want to combine your visit with the traditional chestnut fair, you’ll have to visit it by the end of October. There you’ll have the chance to taste of course, fresh chestnuts accompanied by local wine and get informed of the various products from the local producers.
