The beach

Labinou is a small charming beach in the east side of Pelion with clean deep turquoise waters and a sandy coast. In reality it’s a small bay surrounded by imposing rocks drowned in lush vegetation. These rocks also form mysterious caves that once lived the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus).

The beach doesn’t have any particular organization with the exception of the past few years that a local has placed some umbrellas and sunbeds for helping out visitors. Apart from these, there’s a shower with cold water and a small tavern just above. As you understand this place is best for calm and relaxed swims away from the crowds.

Near the beach, you will find the monastery of Panagias tis Labidonas (Virgin Mary) that has its own special folklore. It is said that near the area sailed an old privateer ship that run into a storm. The captain panicked and prayed to Virgin Mary for help. A light appeared that shed the beach and helped the ship to anchor safely. For that reason the captain built the homonymous monastery that today stands in ruins. Every 27th of August it is celebrated with a fair.

To reach the beach, you’ll have to follow the road towards Tsagkarada (if coming from the Pagasetic side) and after the sign the road descents towards the beach. The beach is 4km away from the main road. Park your car and walk about 100m towards the sea though some steps. If you don’t have a car, you can get there with a bus that usually goes to Zagora but makes a stop at Labinou settlement’s square.
