What you will see
In the picturesque village of Agios Georgios is the neoclassical mansion of Ioannidis, one of the oldest houses in the area of Pelion, which was built around 1888 by the immigrant in Egypt Ioannidis. Until the late 20th century, it remained destroyed after being damaged by physical collapses and looting. Although ruined, in 1986 the Ministry of Culture marked it as a "Work of Art" and its restoration began.
What distinguishes this mansion from others and makes it special is its rich interior decoration with the typical ceiling murals, painted by various famous painters, each following his own personal style. In the past, anyone entering the building could see a wall painting depicting the Rigas Feraios, hero of the Greek Revolution, made by the folk artist Theophilos. The heirs of the house sold this but now stands an accurate photographic portrayal.
The mansion today operates as a guesthouse providing accommodation to the village visitors.
