What you will see
At an altitude of 650 m, in an area with beautiful views towards the sea, is the convent of Pammegistoi Taxiarxes. Built in 1309, it begun as a male monastery at a time when Pelion had been transformed into a monastic cell of the Eastern Orthodox Church. After several renovations in the 18th and 19th century, the monastery was abandoned in 1911 and re-oparated in 1974 this time as a convent, recognized by presidential decree on 15 July 1980.
Patron saints of the monastery are the Archangels Michael and Gabriel and the newly constructed temple next to the square of the monastery complex is dedicated to the Archangel Michael’s Miracle. This renovated church (from Pelion stone) has two chapels, one of the Virgin Mary and one of St. Anastasia the Roman while the two large icons of the monastery's interior, of Archangel Michael and Mary Paramythias, attracts hundreds of believers and pilgrims.
At the entrance of the monastery, anyone can admire the superb iconography of the Archangels. In addition, in the monastery there are the old church, a courtyard, several cells and workshops, internal chapels of the Holy Cross and Blessed Patapios and Anthony and various other places. Finally, a museum inside hosts various religious relics and icons of folk art.
The fraternity that composes the monastery, among other things, deals with various traditional occupations such as hagiography and gold embroidery and has undertaken the operation of a radio station in the 87.5 FM.
The monastery belongs administratively to the municipality of Miles and ecclesiastically depends on the Metropolis Demetriados and Almyrou. It is located between the villages of Agios Vlasios and Agios Georgios Nhleias and you can go there through a wonderful journey.
