What you will see
The convent of Genisseos Tis Theotokou (Birth of Virgin Mary) is located close to the village of Agios Vlasios and more specifically, in the area known as “Karabas”, within walking distance from the Monastery of Holy Archangels. The monastery was established on 1 January of the year 1900, however we do not know until today if it functioned as a male or a female monastery, but in later years it met moments of abandonment. In 1979, it started operating again until today, as a convent. What will impress visitors upon visiting the monastery are the incredibly crafted and impressive interior decoration and the tranquility that exudes the place around. Being built at an altitude of 400 m., the monastery offers a unique view of the surrounding villages and horizon while the lush vegetation, that surrounds it, offers dew on hot summer days.
You should be aware that the monastery celebrates on 8 September each year with a fair having great attendance. You can either go by car from the road or by walking from Agios Vlasios, in a hike that lasts about 45 minutes.
