At the two-floor mansion, “Zoulia” in Portaria that once operated as a girl’s school is today the historical and folklore museum of Portaria. The mansion is a fine sample of Pelion architecture build in 1864 and from 1985 has been declared as a protected historical work of art by the ministry of culture. Regarding the buildings previous flooring plan, at its ground floor were the storage rooms, on the first floor the rooms for winter stay and in the second floor, rooms for summer stay.

Today the museum has a permanent historical and folklore exhibition with photographs, objects, relics, paintings of Chrisoula Zioga and many more, through which the history and the local way of living are presented. Most of the exhibits are prototypes however some replicas do exist. Visitors will have the chance to learn facts from the economic and cultural growth of the area from the early 19th century until the mid 20th century highlighting the lives and actions of those who migrated back from Egypt. Various rooms exist such as the training room, the “Egyptian” room, the Portarias “private life” room, the “Theoxenia” hotel room, and the Sp. Porfiri room where visitors can see the exhibitions and travel back in time.

The museum is a popular attraction for travellers visiting Portaria and Pelion and over periods, educational programs are organized. During the summer months in its courtyard, various cultural events take place.
