What you will see

If you visit Makrinitsa, you should definitely go to the Pelion Museum of Folklore and History. It is a museum with rich folklore exhibits from all over Pelion, hosted in the Topali mansion, just below the main square next to the church of Metamorfosi. The three-floor mansion was built in 1844 as we are informed by the engraved sign of the entrance and in 1932, the last ancestors of the Topali family donated it to the community in order to host a historical and folklore collection of the village and the wider region of Pelion.

During your visit in the museum, you will have the chance to discover a great collection of over 1500 exhibits mostly originated from everyday life in Pelion. Old household appliances, weaving equipment, traditional dresses, books, tools and jewelry are among the exhibits you will discover. You will also see folklore wall paintings, photographic material from the early 20th century, historical relics such as the revolution banner of 1878, pieces of religious art, old weapons and banners, Ottoman firmans and an exquisite collection of works from folklore Pelion painter, N.Christopoulos.
