The women monastery of Agios Spiridonas is located at an altitude of 230m, between Promyri and Platanias, within a verdant area and is one of the most important religious and historical monuments of the area.
The monastery, that its exterior look resembles a castle does not have a confirmed date of construction. We do know that it had a crucial role in the liberal fight against the Ottomans who burned it after the actions of war chief Giorgis Zorbas and was rebuilt in 1834 as informed by an inscription. In 1980, it changed into a women monastery. It is celebrated on December 12 with many coming to pray to Agios Spridionas. Since visiting the monastery, don’t miss going to Panagia Mousgiottissa, a church belonging to the monastery with great murals.
Note that access to the monastery is through a rough dirt road and an a off-road vehicle is recommended
