Zagora public library was founded in 1760, it is located next to the central square and today has more than 25000 titles. It owes its operation to Ioannis Prigkos, a Greek who migrated abroad, educated and created a fortune. From 1762, onwards he began sending books from his personal collection to the village for students or whoever wanted to use them. These books were the first titles of the library that was originally hosted in the Rigas Feraios school.
Important role also in the founding and operation of the library had the Patriarch Callinicus III of Constantinople and many other important people that contributed over time with donations and books.
The library collection includes valuable and rare material from printed and manuscript readings with religious and historical information. Many of these publications are of great interest in respect to their date or place issued while others attract readers for their calligraphy and their overall presentation.
In addition to the main room, it also has a reading room, a computer information room, a children’s area where various events are organized and a lending section.
